What if the most breathtaking moment of your Morocco trip began the second you left Fes?
Most travellers see Morocco’s imperial cities — and miss the desert entirely. Our Fes desert tours change that. In just 3 days, you cross the High Atlas Mountains, descend into the Sahara at Merzouga, ride camels at golden hour, sleep under a sky so full of stars it doesn’t feel real — then arrive in Marrakech transformed.
Not rushed like a 2-day sprint. Not over-committed like a week. 3 days is the sweet spot — and we’ve perfected every hour of it across 1,200+ tours since 2014.
Fes sits at a remarkable crossroads: east of the Atlas, closer to the Sahara than most travelers realize. A Fes desert trip is more than a detour, it is one of Morocco’s most dramatic overland journeys, snaking through cedar forests, Berber mountain villages and the lunar landscape of the Ziz Valley before the orange dunes of Merzouga call out on the horizon.
But how many days do you really need? The answer depends on your pace — and your patience. 2-day tours from Fes are fast, almost breathless. 4-day tours linger beautifully. The sweet spot for most travelers, especially those ending in Marrakech , is 3 days: enough time to experience everything without burning out.
Asara Morocco Tours has operated this route since 2014. We know every mountain pass, every good Tagine stop, and which dune to climb for the best sunrise. This is our home , and we want to share it with you.
| Duration | Dune Time | Pace | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 Days | ~4 hours | Rushed | Very tight |
| 3 Days | Full evening + sunrise | Balanced | ⭐ Best value |
| 4 Days | Full day + 2 sunsets | Relaxed | Luxury pace |
Every itinerary is built around one principle: small groups (max 8), real desert experiences, and zero tourist traps. Choose your adventure below.
The legendary track. The itinerary includes a camel trek at sunset, an overnight stay at a luxury Berber camp, a visit to the Merzouga dunes, a stop at Ait Benhaddou, and concludes in Marrakech. This 3-Day desert trip Great for first-time travelers.
2 nights in Sahara, Todra Gorge, Dades Valley road – the most immersive fes to marrakech desert tour 4 days available on the market. Ideal for couples and photographers.
Our fastest fes desert tour 2 days option – perfect for travelers with limited time who still want to touch the dunes and spend one night under the stars.
Every multi-day itinerary we run is a string of unforgettable moments. These are the six experiences travelers tell us about months later, the reasons our guests come back to Morocco a second and third time.
The one picture that everyone takes home. A 90-minute caravan ride on dromedaries from the edge of Merzouga to the center of Erg Chebbi, where they arrive at camp just as the sky turns saffron. Only sandals and small backpacks. The rest is kept by your driver.
Private tent with real beds, a bathroom, and hot water. For dinner, you have lamb tagine and fresh bread cooked over coals. After that, you can listen to Berber drumming around the fire and look up at the stars, which are so thick that you'll forget cities exist. We camp with solar power, so there are no generators or noise.
Wake at 5:30 AM and climb the dunes barefoot as the desert turns from cold blue to burning gold. Nothing in travel compares to watching the Sahara receive the morning sun from the top of Erg Chebbi.
The 2,260-meter-high mountain pass that separates Marrakech from the south is one of the most beautiful drives in North Africa. We stop at the viewpoint with a view of the whole area, go to a women's co-op that makes argan oil, and then go down to the red-earth plateau that leads to the Sahara.
The ksar Aït Benhaddou, which is a thousand years old, was in Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and Lawrence of Arabia. A licensed local guide takes you through the dirt paths, up to the old granary at the top, and through the filming locations that made this UNESCO site famous all over the world.
A trip to see the descendants of West African musicians who moved to the edge of the Sahara. Mint tea, a live Gnawa percussion show, and a talk about how the community has kept its musical tradition alive for almost 400 years. One of the most real cultural stops along the way.
We are a Morocco-based operator, not a reseller. Every itinerary is run by our own team, our own vehicles, and driver-guides who've been with us for an average of seven years.
Every guide leading our tours from Marrakech grew up in the southern regions they guide through. They are not reciting information — they are sharing their home. Ministry of Tourism certified, multilingual, and passionate about Berber culture, kasbah history, and desert ecology.
Your vehicle, your itinerary, your pace. You will never be placed in a group with strangers or hurried past a gorge because another passenger has a different schedule. Every Morocco desert tour Marrakech we run is exclusive to you and your travel companions.
Photography-focused? We adjust internal schedules for dawn light on the dunes. Travelling with children? We modify pacing and select family-appropriate activities. On your honeymoon? We arrange private dinners and exclusive tent configurations at the desert camp. Every booking begins with a consultation.
We use kasbah hotels, traditional ksour guesthouses, and a private luxury desert camp at Erg Chebbi — chosen for character, location, and quality rather than star count. Properties we would recommend to our own families.
All vehicles are air-conditioned and regularly serviced. Our team is reachable by WhatsApp throughout your journey. Emergency protocols, route checks, and weather monitoring are standard for every sahara desert tours we operate.
When you book with Asara Morocco tours, you deal directly with the operator. No commissions, no inflated third-party pricing, and no disconnect between what was sold and what is delivered. Our 5-star rating across platforms reflects exactly that consistency.
After ten years of running this itinerary from Fes, we know exactly what first-time travelers wish they had known before they left home. Before you make a reservation, read these seven important things. They will help you choose the right itinerary.
Our Marrakech team replies in English, French, and Spanish — usually within two hours. No bots, no call centres.
Ask a Question →The Sahara runs hot and cold in the most literal sense. The same desert that bakes at 42°C in July drops below 0°C on January nights — and both extremes can catch first-timers off guard.
Peak Sweet Spot
March–May · Oct–Nov — 20–27°C days, cool evenings. Perfect for camel rides. Book 2–3 weeks ahead.
Quiet Season
Dec–Feb — fewer tourists, dramatic light, near-freezing nights. Pack layers. Great for solo travelers.
Approach with Care
Jun–Aug — above 40°C. Camel treks at 6AM only. Not recommended for families or first-timers.
💡 Our verdict: If you can only choose one window — October. Golden light, quiet dunes, and perfect temperatures in the morning and night.
For Example 3-day Fes desert tour ranges from $160 to $450+ per person across the market—a gap wide enough to include both cramped 17-seat minibuses and private luxury 4×4s. Here's how to read the numbers.
Shared Group (max 17)
From $165 /person
Private 4×4 (3 Max)
From $310 /person
Luxury Camp Upgrade
+$55 /person add-on
What moves the price:
📅 Season — Mar–May & Sep–Oct add ~10–15%
👥 Group size — smaller = higher per-person cost
🏕 Camp tier — standard vs. en-suite luxury tent
🚗 Vehicle — minivan vs. private 4×4
⚠️ Red flag: Tours under $100 for 3 days almost always cut corners on accommodation or skip the Aït Benhaddou stop. Always check what's included.
Shared Group:
✓ Best price (from $165)
✓ Meet fellow travellers
✓ Fixed departure schedule
✗ Fixed pace & stops
✗ Max 17 — but can't choose who
✗ Less flexible on timing
Private Tour :
✓ Your pace, your stops
✓ Ideal for families & couples
✓ Flexible departure time
✓ Honeymoon upgrades available
✗ Higher per-person cost
✗ Requires advance booking
Best for: Couples, families, honeymoons, photography enthusiasts
💡 Our verdict: Travelling as 2 people? The price gap between shared and private is often only $30–60/person — and the experience difference is enormous.
One of the unexpected highlights of the Fes–Sahara route is Moroccan food. You will eat well – if you know what you are in for.
☕ Breakfast (Included) Mint tea, msemen flatbreads, honey, amlou (almond butter), and fresh orange juice Camp and guesthouse.
🥘 Lunch (Not Included · ~$5–10) Stop at local restaurants en route — slow-cooked tajines, harira soup, kefta. Budget $7 per meal comfortably.
🌙 Dinner at Desert Camp (Included with Deluxe) A full Berber meal: salads, couscous, tajine, fresh fruits. Under the stars by candlelight. Vegetarian upon request.
🌱 Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free diets easily catered for – please advise at booking Halal food is everywhere.
💡 Budget tip: Carry $25–35 cash per day for lunches, snacks, and bottled water. Card acceptance is rare outside cities.
Short answer: No — this is not a trekking tour. The Fes to Sahara route is designed for all fitness levels. You spend most of your time in a comfortable vehicle. Here's the honest breakdown:
Driving Easy
Comfortable A/C vehicle. Winding mountain roads — some passengers get motion-sick (bring tablets).
Camel Trek Easy
Guided at a slow walking pace. Suitable for children (4+), older adults, and non-athletic travelers. Duration: ~1 hour.
Dune Climb Moderate
Optional. Soft sand makes it harder than it looks—20–40 min to summit. Totally worth it. Sandboards are available to slide back down.
Aït Benhaddou Walk Easy
Gentle 45-min walk on uneven cobblestones. Suitable for most mobility levels. Not wheelchair accessible.
💡 Bottom line: If you can walk 2–3 km at a slow pace, you can do this tour. We've guided travellers aged 6 to 78 successfully.

The night in Merzouga was completely surreal — I genuinely couldn’t believe that silence existed. Ali, our guide, knew exactly which dune to climb for sunrise. Worth every cent and more. Already planning to come back for the 4-day version.”

“We did the 3-day Fes to Marrakech tour for our honeymoon. Asara upgraded our camp tent without asking — just because it was our trip. The luxury tent with stars visible through the mesh ceiling was unforgettable. Perfect from start to finish.”

“ravelled solo as a 58-year-old woman and felt completely safe and looked after the entire time. The group was small (just 5 of us), the pace was right, and Youssef our guide was genuinely one of the most knowledgeable people I’ve ever met. Book this tour.”

Posted on barry l10 April 2026Verified would recommend to friends and family overall a good experience and i would def recommend asara to family and friends. the sprinter van was clean and in good condition. Our driver Younes was really nice, we were very comfortable driving with him. Only caveat is his English was not very good, so there were some questions I asked on the road that he didn't understand or was unable to answer. So if its important for you to have strong English, you may want to double check with Abdul the operator, to make sure you get one who is truly fluent. But Younes is so nice and patient that it made up for the language issues. Also, Abdul was very responsive and we put the trip together quickly. He is flexible, and let me book the desert camp directly since he was not used to working with this particular camp. Pricing also seemed competitive and he let me pay with paypal which some of the others did not allow (only cash).Posted on ce_cyt090410 April 2026Verified 1-day private trip to Ait Benhaddou We did a 1-day private trip to Ait Benhaddou from Marrakech with Hamza. Hamza picked us up right at the pick up time. He was very accommodating to us, stopped at places as we requested and gave us ample of time to explore the sites. He was a great driver, despite the crazy traffic in Marrakech, so we felt very safe the whole time. Overall we had a great time!Posted on Ana30 March 2026Verified Amazing and unforgettable experience! The experience was amazing and highly recommended from the beginning to the end! We are a family of 4 with a 9 years old boy and 12 years old girl and Abdoul managed to customise and personalise our trip to get most of the experience possible for every age group! Our personal driver was Imad and a big thank you to him for his politeness, his amazing manners and accommodating our needs as a family. Despite the long drive and the multiple stops to get the most of our trip, he was always accommodating and great with communicating with our children too! Much appreciated! The trip that Abdoul has put together but also the continuous communication, his availability were excellent. Highly recommended for an amazing experience of the outback of Morocco and the unique experience for the whole family. Thank you for the lovely memories.Posted on Latha A25 January 2026Verified Highly recommend!!! We hired Assara Morocco Tours for private transportation across Morocco in a Mercedes Benz Sprinter, and the experience exceeded our expectations in every way. Our driver, Mr. Younes, was absolutely wonderful — an excellent driver, calm, professional, and incredibly considerate. We felt completely safe and comfortable traveling with him throughout our trip. Midway through our journey, we faced an unexpected family emergency: my husband had to urgently fly to India while we were in Fez. The situation was stressful, but Younes and Abdoul, the organizer from Assara Morocco Tours, went above and beyond to help us. They coordinated everything seamlessly, and Younes drove my husband to Casablanca at 3:00 AM so he could catch his international flight. That level of support, kindness, and reliability is rare. The team was extremely trustworthy, responsive, and compassionate during a very difficult moment. On top of that, their pricing was very competitive for the quality of service provided. I highly recommend Assara Morocco Tours. If you’re looking for a reliable, professional, and genuinely caring tour company in Morocco, this is the one.Posted on Footprints82214323 January 2026Verified Wonderful Morocco Trip. Abdoul was extremely responsive and helped us thoughtfully curate an itinerary that fit our family’s interests and pace, with practical suggestions throughout. He arranged excellent car service with a very reliable driver and was our main point of contact both before and during the trip, always checking in to make sure everything was going smoothly. He also helped coordinate communication with the riads we booked independently, which was incredibly helpful. Three highlights of our trip—the hot air balloon ride, the desert experience and traditional Hammam—were beautifully organized and truly unforgettable. Abdoul’s transparency, reliability, and on-the-ground support made a big difference in our overall experience. We would highly recommend him, especially for families traveling in Morocco.Posted on Sightsee0291163149420 December 2025Verified Moroccco Stole our hearts! Please tell us when you are going and what kind of traveler you are. We'll plan the perfect Morocco tour for you from Marrakech, usually in less than two hours.
Everything you need to know before booking , from what to pack to how to get from Fes to Sahara desert.
The drive from Fes to Merzouga is about 7-8 hours (around 550 km) with stops. Our tours leave at 7:00 AM to be there in time for the sunset camel trek. Ifrane, Azrou, Midelt and the Ziz Valley are all on the route and each stage is scenic, so the drive seems much shorter than it sounds.
Our Fes desert tour includes: transport in a comfortable 4×4, English-speaking Berber guide, camel trek, guided visit to Aït Benhaddou, daily breakfast, and hotel drop-off in Marrakech. Lunches and dinners are not included (except in our luxury package).
It is possible to do a 2-day Fes desert tour, but it is really rushed, with most of both days spent in the car and only a few hours at the dunes. I would only recommend it to those who are not flexible at all. If you can spare 3 days, the experience is much richer.
Yes – our group tours are shared and operate daily in high season (March-May, September-October) with up to 8 passengers. Smaller groups mean more flexibility and a much more personal experience than your typical 16-seat bus tours. Call us for departure dates and availability.
From October to April, the desert is at its most comfortable, with daytime highs between 20 and 28 degrees Celsius and cool, clear nights. Photographers are busiest in March and November. We leave at dawn during these months, which are possible but hot. The Sahara is open all year, and our luxury desert camps are comfortable in all kinds of weather.
Yes, we arrange round trip Fes to Merzouga tours 2 days and 3 days for those who want to return to Fes. The 2-day return option includes an overnight stay in the dunes and returns on the same Atlas route. Prices as for the Fes – Marrakech option.
The 3-day private tour is perfect for families – you control the pace, the stops and meal times. Camel rides are safe for children (the guides lead the camels by rope at walking pace). For families, the 3-day Fes to Marrakech route is recommended: varied scenery, manageable daily driving distances and memorable experiences for all ages.
Must-do 7-day Morocco itinerary: Days 1–2 explore Fes medina; Day 3-5 Our 3-day desert tour to Marrakech through Merzouga; Day 6 Explore Marrakech Day 7 Fly out Marrakech Airport This includes the three great cities of Morocco and the Sahara in one efficient loop – our most popular itinerary for first-time visitors.
